Configuring the GPS
The HP Travel Companion has a built-in GPS and antenna. As long as the corner opposite the HP logo on the front of the unit is facing toward the sky then you should get a good GPS signal. The 5900 has TomTom street mapping installed from the factory. Set the internal GPS Settings: Start>Settings>System Tab>GPS Icon 1. Set Program Port to: None 2. Set Hardware Port to: None and Baud Rate to: 9600 3. On Access tab: Uncheck Manage Automatically 4. Press OK in the upper right corner. Once Anywhere Map is installed, do the following: 1. Run Anywhere Map (Start > Programs > Anywhere Map) 2. Once the map appears, go to File > Settings > GPS Settings 3. At the top, change the COM port to Serial Cable COM 1 4. Just below, set the baud rate to 9600. 5. Disregard the COM port references in the section to the right. 6. Tap DONE 7. The GPS information in the upper right corner of the Map may show No SAT for a period of time until the GPS “finds itself”. Once it does you will see ground speed and altitude there. NOTE: The GPS can not be used for two programs at the same time so you MUST close Anywhere Map before you open TomTom and visa versa. (when in TOM TOM tap on map screen this will bring up the main menu. Arrow over to page 3 of the menu you will see EXIT application.) |
