Issue: If you are using the Anywhere SST, Motion tablet or the Raven XP tablet, it is critical that you allow the tablet to fully complete its boot (start up) process BEFORE you launch the Anywhere Map program.

Background: When a tablet (or desktop) computer starts, it loads a series of programs that allow the computer to function as well as talk to peripheral devices. One of these programs, for example, is the Bluetooth driver software that allows the tablet to talk to the GPS and Weather unit.

When the tablet is starting, you’ll see the desktop appear. The Anywhere Map PRO icon is one of the icons you’ll see there. However, the appearance of the desktop does NOT mean the tablet has finished its boot process. Starting Anywhere Map at this point will most likely cause you to have start up problems, most likely of which will be failure to connect to the Bluetooth devices like GPS and weather.

Resolution: Allow the tablet to complete its boot process entirely before you start the software. This is best measured by looking at the little arrow-shaped cursor on the screen. While the system is booting the cursor will change from just an arrow to an arrow with an hour glass beside it. In addition, the little blue light on the unit that designates that the hard drive is accessing (flashes blue when the drive is operating) will be flashing blue.

Do NOT start Anywhere Map (don’t double-tap the icon) or Pocket Plates until the hard drive light is no longer flashing and until the cursor remains just an arrow (no hour glass).

Suggestion: Our suggestion is to start the tablet as you reach the airplane, before you start your preflight. Allow it to boot while you’re pre-flighting. Then, by the time you have the aircraft engine started (which also means you have power to the GPS and Weather unit), the tablet will long-since have been booted and should be ready to talk to all devices and start properly.
