Tablet Weather Troubleshooting Help
If your
weather is not working on the Duo, these troubleshooting steps will
help you to pinpoint exactly what is going on with your unit and will
provide you the means to fix it.
Check
that your weather box has power going to the weather box. If it is
being powered, it should show some lights that are illuminated on
the weather receiver. If it is not powered on, then you should check
your power connections and make sure that everything is connected
properly.
After
ensuring that your weather box is powered on, open Anywheremap Pro
and go to wx/download > activate xm radio. You will see a box pop
up on Anywheremap Pro that has a variety of information on it. The
main thing that we are concerned about now is the radio id number.
If it has a radio id number, then proceed to step 3. If it does NOT
have the radio id number, then proceed to step 4.
Great!
We have the radio id. This means that your tablet computer and the
weather receiver are connected together through the bluetooth. This
is a key step that needs to happen. However, it still might not be
working at this point. The next step is to check the signal quality.
If it is showing a poor quality, then make sure that your antenna
has a good view of the sky. Your weather requires at least a fair
signal to work. If it has Xm-ant, then verify that you have the
antenna plugged into your weather receiver and that it has no
visible physical damage to it. This error message means that it
doesn't recognize the antenna. Assuming that we have verified that
the antenna is working fine, go to step 5.
The
radio ID shows up as unknown. This means that your weather receiver
and your tablet are not connected via bluetooth. At this point the
next step is to check the com ports. On your duo, minimize
Anywheremap Pro and hit the menu button (tangible button on the
outside of your duo), this will bring up the task bar. Hit the
windows logo in the bottom left corner > devices and printers
(this will be right below control panel). Devices and printers is
where you make the bluetooth connections on the duo. Under removable
devices look for the connection for your weather box. It can show up
as a variety of options. Generally it will say WX radio SPP. This is
the bluetooth connection that has already been made between your
weather box and the tablet. After you see this on your tablet, we
want to go and check what com port it is using for the weather box.
Push and hold on the connection until a circle comes around on the
screen and then release – this is equivalent to right clicking on
a regular computer. At this point go to properties > services and
see what com port is showing up as an option. Either memorize this
com port or write it down.
Ok, now
we have the right com port. Either exit or minimize out of devices
and printers and then go back into Anywheremap Pro. Go to
wx/download and hit the weather configuration button. Make sure that
the enable xm weather button is checked and then change the Xm
weather communication port to the one that we got from devices and
printers.. This should now be set up correctly. At this point, go to
wx/download > activate xm radio and see if it has the bluetooth
radio. Note: if it still does not have your radio id, then it might
be a good idea to exit Anywheremap Pro and then open the program
again. If you are still having problems after this then see: “SST
Duo Bluetooth Setup instructions” and remake the bluetooth
connection on your tablet. At this point you can double check that
the antenna is working as well (step 3). If you do have a good
signal, then go to step 5.
We
should now have both the radio id and a signal quality. Now we need
to verify that it is going to work with the XM service. On activate
xm radio, we should now be seeing the activation status show up as
aviator or aviator lite depending on your xm service (Note: when you
first appear on this page, it can take up to 30 seconds to populate
these fields even if it is working. Also, while you are on the
activate xm radio page, you will not be able to download any
weather). If you see these three items, then great! Your weather box
should working great now. Just hit done and wait for the weather to
start coming in. This will typically take up to 5 minutes to get
nexrad. If not, then go to step 6.
If
the activation status is not showing up, then we need to try and
have XM do a refresh for us. You will need to do this if you haven't
gone flying in a while (typically even a 10 day break will require a
refresh). You can call XM at 1-800-985-9200 to request a refresh.
You will just need to give them your radio id number (on the XM
activation page) to do this. You will then need to remain on the
activate xm radio page until it shows up with your aviator or
aviator lite status. Typically this refresh will not take longer
than 25 minutes. To reiterate, it is very important that you wait on
the activate xm page if you have sent a refresh through, otherwise
it will not refresh. When it shows your aviator lite or aviator
status, then you are good to go. At this point, you can hit done.
Happy flying!
